Mt Hood
No matter where you are in Portland, on a clear day, you can see Mt Hood rising at 11,250 ft in the distance. An hour or so drive takes you to its slopes at Timberline resort, and hopefully above the maritime cloud layer hanging over the valleys. On bad ski days, the mountain is full of ice, whipping wind and chicken heads. On a great ski day, one is treated to blue skies, sunshine and soft snow. Illumination Rock, one of the most recognizable features on Mt Hood, is a moderate ski tour from the Timberline Parking lot. And if you time it right, a gorgeous ski back down to your car. This day was a perfect day, and the blue sky and soft, white snow, inspired our “Perfect Ski Day” bracelet.
